This Tony Award-winning Broadway show is a journey through the Fats Waller Songbook and Harlem in its heyday. With snazzy period costumes, complete with bowlers, spats, ermine, and pearls, the dynamic five-member cast transforms the theater into a Harlem jazz hall.
This exciting production features Vivian Jett from the original Broadway production. She joins a distinctive New York cast, as they sing and dance through thirty Waller show-stoppers. The production is by Irving Street Rep.
There are sensuous songs such as "Honeysuckle Rose," poignant numbers such as "Mean to Me" and"Black and Blue", plus hilariously naughty performances of "That Ain't Right" and "Your Feets Too Big."
Now, Steve Rubin is also a drummer. But he won't be able to make this gig, so long time friend and bassist John Arbo, who I ran into a couple of months ago (but that's another story) called me to play with the trio. I hear the food is really good, and if Joe Pesci stops in, as he has been known to do, you can get an nice entree and starstruck in the same evening. If he shows up, and you don't, refrain from giving me your best, "You were SERIOUS about that?" from "My Cousin Vinny".

The music of Thomas"Fats" Waller is celebrated in this collection of some of his best known songs. From love songs to tunes supporting the efforts of World War II, as Fats would want it, the joint will be jumping!

Your Arms To Short To Box With God - the hit gospel musical - revolves around the story of Jesus from the book of Matthew. Your Arms Too Short To Box With God, is a showcase and tribute to the music of Gospel legend Alex Bradford who penned the title song. Bradford’s most popular song “Too Close to Heaven” which has sold over 10 million records and been covered by artists from Shirley Ceasar to Stevie Wonder is also included in this production. In addition to Bradford’s songs the theatrical portions are interwoven beautifully by the compositions of Micki Grant whose songs give the show its dramatic flair and bursts of comedy. Your Arms Too Short To Box With God is a must see for theatre lovers, Gospel music lovers and anyone who could use some extra joy in their life.

This is a wonderful venture between Englewood Hospital and the Jazz Foundation of America. The program provides music in the main lobby of the hospital. You'll see some world famous jazz artists on an any given day, it's quite a treat and a comfort to all who populate the hospital, patients and staff alike. I have the pleasure to be subbing for drummer Fred Stoltz, who spends each Thanksgiving holiday with his mom (She's 97 this year, so who am I to say no?). Come by and sit on the couch if you're in the area. I once saw a woman, being transported in a hospital bed, make the attendings stop so that she could hear the music for a few minutes!
